Mooresville, NC – Casey Mears and the Germain Racing team have taken the upcoming 2014 season by the horns.  While the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has yet to see its first green flag of the year, the GEICO team recorded a successful test at Daytona in early January, where they ended up sixth fastest overall and fourth in single car runs.  A subsequent test at Nashville at the end of January once again found them among the fastest cars on the speed chart.

Now, as the Daytona 500 rapidly approaches, Germain Racing is pleased to announce the addition of KMC Wheels as a major associate sponsor on their #13 GEICO Chevrolet SS for the 2014 season.  KMC Wheels, which was founded in 1982, is not unfamiliar to Mears who has long used their cutting edge custom wheels on a variety of vehicles over the years.

KMC Wheels is a brand of Wheel Pros, which has multi-disciplinary sponsorships encompassing nearly the entire sport of auto racing, as well as off-road truck racing.  The relationship with Germain Racing and Casey Mears will be their first full-time sponsorship effort in the sport of NASCAR and will serve to complement their current programs, while also expanding their reach among the racing world.  Wheel Pros’ longstanding commitment to motorsports has Mears excited to be the KMC Wheels brand ambassador in the world of stock car racing.

“It’s great to have KMC Wheels on-board with us in 2014.  I have known these guys for a long time and have used their wheels on many of my trucks, so it’s great to be the face of what they’re doing in NASCAR,” Mears said.  “We’ll work hard to help raise awareness of their brand in a sport with such a passionate fan base.  This announcement is great news as we start the year.  GEICO is on the car for at least the next couple of years and our new relationship with Chevrolet and RCR (Richard Childress Racing) seems to be working out really well.  KMC is a great addition to our program and we appreciate their support.”

Wheel Pros president, Jody Groce, echoed Mears’ enthusiasm about the partnership.

“We’re excited to partner with Germain Racing and Casey Mears for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.  We feel that NASCAR has a strong fan base and this was good timing for us to enter that space and begin engaging fans that so strongly embrace the drivers and their sponsors,” Groce said.  “We share the fans’ passion for auto racing and look forward to building relationships in NASCAR that will both raise awareness of our KMC brand, as well as provide race fans with a superior, stylish wheel option for their vehicles.”

The Daytona 500 is on Sunday, February 23rd, and it will be televised live on FOX beginning at 1:00 PM (ET).  The Motor Racing Network (MRN) will carry the live radio broadcast.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America announced today the course for its 20th Anniversary Ride. From Saturday, May 3 through Saturday, May 10, 2014, more than 175 riders will embark on the cross-country motorcycle trek, which begins in Carlsbad, Calif. and travel more than 2,800 miles before reaching Daytona Beach, Fla. Founded by former NASCAR driver and racing analyst Kyle Petty, the Ride raises funds and awareness for Victory Junction, a Camp created to enrich the lives of children with chronic or life threatening illnesses.

“What began as just a few friends having a good time riding track to track has turned into what we have today, which is an incredible event that provides thousands of life changing experiences for children,” said Petty. “This is the first year we’ve traveled straight from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean, and I’m looking forward to experiencing it with friends, while meeting our fans and generous supporters along the way.”

The 2014 Kyle Petty Charity Ride Schedule:

?      Day 1 Saturday, May 3 – Carlsbad, Calif. to Tucson, Ariz.

?      Day 2 Sunday, May 4 – Tucson, Ariz. to Las Cruces, N.M.

?      Day 3 Monday, May 5 – Las Cruces, N.M. to Midland, Texas

?      Day 4 Tuesday, May 6 – Midland, Texas to Austin, Texas

?      Day 5 Wednesday, May 7 – Austin, Texas to Beaumont, Texas

?      Day 6 Thursday, May 8 – Beaumont, Texas to New Orleans

?      Day 7 Friday, May 9 – New Orleans to Tallahassee, Fla.

?      Day 8 Saturday, May 10 – Tallahassee, Fla. to Daytona Beach, Fla.

This year NASCAR Hall of Famer and seven time champion Richard Petty, NASCAR driver Matt Kenseth, former NASCAR driver and Bo-Dyn Olympic bobsled founder Geoff Bodine, NASCAR legends Harry Gant and Donnie Allison, former NFL great Herschel Walker, Fox News contributor and former member of the U.S. House of Representatives Col. Allen West, and co-host of History Channel’s Top Gear America and NASCAR personality Rutledge Wood plan to participate in all or part of the 20th Anniversary Ride.

“It’s amazing to see how one tragedy (Adam Petty’s death) can turn into something so incredible like Victory Junction,” said Kyle Petty’s father Richard. “After five years, it’s great to be back on the Kyle Petty Charity Ride to support Kyle and the Camp – just in time for the 20th Anniversary.”

Communities along the route are encouraged to show support for the riders, meet Petty and also contribute to the Charity Ride’s “Small Change. Big Impact.” program that benefits children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.

In the past 10 years, more than 7,730 children with health issues that would typically prevent them from attending Camp have attended Victory Junction at no cost to their families, thanks to the Kyle Petty Charity Ride. Since its inception by the Petty family in 2004 in honor of their late son Adam, the Camp has served as the Ride’s primary beneficiary.

The 2014 Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America is made possible by presenting sponsor Manheim, as well as Coca-Cola, Dodge, Pilot Flying J, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Racing Electronics, FLUIDYNE Racing Products, WinCraft Racing, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, the Petty Family Foundation, and Original Bike Spirits ®.

Manheim is a proud sponsor of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride and we fully support its cause,” said Nick Peluso, Manheim senior vice president of customer management.  “It was amazing to see all of the children and families who came to support the Ride last year. We’re happy to be making positive changes in the lives of children with chronic illnesses.”

Mooresville, N.C. – Tommy Baldwin Racing has hired Ryan Preece, the 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion, to run two races in the NASCAR Nationwide series in 2014 in the No. 36 Chevrolet. Preece will make starts at Richmond International Raceway as well as returning to New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Preece, a member of the prestigious NASCAR Next program, has a decorated NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour career under his belt. He made his career debut in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2013 with Tommy Baldwin Racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. In seven years in the NWMT Preece has made 95 career starts including nine wins, 42 top five finishes, 54 top 10 finishes and 11 pole position starts.

East West Marine, based out of Manorville, N.Y., will adorn Preece’s No. 36 Chevrolet for both races. “We are very excited to be able to support Ryan’s continued progression through the NASCAR ranks and once again be a partner with Tommy Baldwin Racing,” said Brian Slaga, President of East West Marine.

“We fully support Ryan’s career through the various racing series that he participates in. He is a great ambassador for East West Marine and we are proud to have him wave our flag. We look forward to his continued success for many years to come.” “I can’t wait, and I’m very happy to have this chance again. You never know if your first race in a car, could be your last one. Making the best of the opportunity is key. I’m very lucky to have someone like Tommy pushing and supporting me. He has given me a ‘true’ opportunity that is very hard to come by in todays racing. There aren’t very many car owners that will put you in a car like he is doing,” said Preece.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in a full body car and doing what I love to do. Driving for Tommy is fun because he is from ‘modified country’, and has the same personality that we all do. Working with all the guys at TBR is fun too, they are all hardcore racers and all have the same goal in mind. Also, I’m very lucky to have a guy like Brian Slaga behind me with East West Marine and his company. He supports me 100% and helps me with whatever is needed to race or be at the track.”

Team owner Tommy Baldwin also commented, “Ryan proved himself last year at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and we are looking forward to his return with TBR.”
